On the first Monday in September, Labor Day, the nation pays tribute to roughly 155 million American workers who make social and economic contributions to local business communities everyday.

For 100 years, Better Business Bureau has championed integrity and transparency in the marketplace; and this Labor Day serves as a reminder that trust starts with an ethical business workforce.

BBB’s Code of Business Practices—which represents sound advertising, selling and customer service practices—is a guide for reputable businesses. The Code also helps employees and consumers who seek reliable companies and is based on eight core principles:

  1. Build Trust
  2. Advertise Honestly
  3. Tell the Truth
  4. Be Transparent
  5. Honor Promises
  6. Be Responsive
  7. Safeguard Privacy
  8. Embody Integrity

While the code can help all organizations, it also represents BBB’s Accreditation Standards.

This Labor Day, pay tribute to the workers who make the business economy thrive. Visit bbb.org for more marketplace articles and browse BBB's Online Business Directory.
